Description

Domesticated more than 6,000 years ago, the olive tree is a member of the Oleaceae family. It can reach 10 meters high and live up to 1000 years, which makes it a universal emblem of strength, longevity and defeated old age. The oil extracted from the olive is rich in omega-9 and known for its health benefits.

The olive leaf is used in phytotherapy for its hypotensive, antihypertensive and vasculoprotective properties. The olive tree also acts as a protector of the heart thanks to its anti-arrhythmic and bradycardia effects which decrease and regulate the cardiac rhythm. The olive leaf contains polyphenols, and in particular flavonoids responsible for its antioxidant activity (luteolol, apigenol), phenolic acids (caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid), tannins as well as terpenic derivatives, including iridoids, all active components that give the olive tree its multiple properties.

The olive tree also has an anti-diabetic action. Moreover, the phenolic derivatives of the olive tree act as antibacterial on germs such as staphylococci, streptococci or Pseudomonas.

Moreover, the olive leaf extract shows a hypocholesterolemic action associated with a decrease of the bad cholesterol (LDL) and an increase of the good cholesterol (HDL).

The benefits

The olive tree acts as a natural antioxidant that protects the body against free radicals and helps in case of insufficient food intake or increased nutrients. In addition, the olive leaf is traditionally known to help blood circulation and maintain normal blood pressure.
