Copper
Description
Copper is an essential trace element for many enzymes. It is involved in the maintenance of bone mass and cartilage, but is also essential in the fight against infections and the proper functioning of the heart. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, it also has a beneficial effect on pain caused by osteoarthritis.
The nutritional intake of copper ranges from 1.5 µg per day for adolescents to 2 µg for adult women.
The foods richest in copper are liver (14.6 mg / 100 g), oysters (4.45 mg / 100 g) and dark chocolate (3.2 mg / 100 g).
The benefits
- Copper deficiency is very rare, but it can be harmful because this trace element contributes to maintaining a normal energy metabolism. Thus, in the case of a proven deficiency, the body is in a state of anaemia because copper can no longer facilitate the transport and absorption of iron.
- Copper has many properties and functions, and its benefits for the body are numerous. For example, while it helps maintain connective tissue (skin, joints, etc.) in good condition, it also plays a key role in skin and hair pigmentation. Copper also contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system and, like other trace elements, stimulates our immune system. Finally, it has a recognized protective effect against oxidative stress, which is responsible for premature cell ageing.
