Spirulina is cultivated for its health benefits and nutritional value. Like all photosynthetic algae, spirulina has pigments, notably chlorophyll and phycocyanin. Its richness in nutrients is remarkable, thus avoiding dietary deficiencies.

Spirulina is a notable source of proteins and amino acids. It contains beta-carotene and a large number of vitamins: A, C, D, E, K as well as the family of B vitamins, including vitamin B9.

Spirulina contains many minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, potassium, calcium and zinc.

Its high iron content helps to combat anaemia. Spirulina is anti-inflammatory. Its antioxidant action fights against free radicals responsible for oxidative stress in the cells.
