Magnesium
Description
Magnesium is one of the most abundant minerals in the body. More than half is found in the teeth and bones, where it is used to form and bind calcium to help maintain good bone health. Magnesium is also stored in muscle and soft tissue.
Magnesium is used by the body in a large number of enzymatic reactions, particularly in energy production, and is essential for the proper functioning of the human body.
Magnesium plays an important role in the elimination of toxins. While we are confronted every day with numerous external pollutants and a more or less pronounced state of stress, during these external or internal attacks, magnesium will detoxify the body by stimulating the elimination function of the liver, by increasing bile secretion and by facilitating its elimination.
In addition to its role in the elimination of toxins, magnesium acts against minor sleep disorders and associated fatigue, helps regulate blood pressure and promotes body relaxation, thus helping to combat stress. It also promotes concentration, maintains nervous and psychological balance and reduces irritability resulting from a lack of sleep.
The daily intake of magnesium is estimated at 300 mg for women and 400 mg for men. The foods richest in magnesium are chocolate, pulses (lentils, beans, peas) and wholegrain cereals. Other major providers are oleaginous fruits (almonds and walnuts), as well as green vegetables, although we should not forget certain natural mineral waters that are richer in magnesium.
The benefits
- Magnesium contributes to nerve transmission and muscle relaxation after contraction, which is vital for heart function. It is essential for maintaining a regular heartbeat, lipid metabolism, as well as regulating blood sugar levels and blood pressure. It is involved in normal psychological functions and nerve transmission.
- It has a relaxing effect on smooth muscles, dilates vessels and regulates nerve conduction. It participates in the reduction of fatigue. Magnesium can play a role in relieving pain associated with premenstrual syndrome, menstruation or migraines.
