Description
Maitake, Grifola frondosa, is an edible mushroom used in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine. Often considered as an adaptogen, i.e. capable of increasing the body's resistance to stress, it has many health benefits. A symbol of longevity and vigour, maitake is renowned for its tonic effects, which give it the status of an anti-fatigue mushroom.
This mushroom contains beta-glucans, polysaccharides with immunostimulant properties. In fact, these polysaccharides stimulate the response and activity of the immune system cells. In addition, maitake has hypoglycaemic effects and promotes insulin sensitivity in cases of metabolic syndrome such as type II diabetes. This mushroom is also said to be neuroprotective by contributing to the regeneration of the neuronal transmission network.
Moreover, the presence of vitamins (B1, B2, B3, C and D), as well as minerals (iron, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium), all of which are essential to the proper functioning of the body, only reinforces the arsenal of benefits that maitake offers.
According to some studies, Grifola frondosa also has anti-tumour properties. It induces the death of cancer cells and reduces the creation of new blood vessels to limit the risk of metastasis.
