Bifidobacterium longum BL03
Description
Bifidobacterium longum is one of the bacteria in the human gut microbiota, an ecosystem of billions of microorganisms.
This Gram-positive bacterium belongs to the phylum (group) Actinobacteria. It is strictly anaerobic, i.e. it grows only in the absence of oxygen.
By multiplying, Bifidobacterium longum exerts an immunostimulatory effect and inhibits the growth of pathogenic bacteria. Furthermore, in people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), this bifidobacterium contributes to the correction of intestinal permeability and the improvement of symptoms associated with this condition (abdominal pain, bloating, flatulence and diarrhoea).
Other properties of Bifidobacterium longum are also beneficial to health: by facilitating the production of the enzyme lactase, this bacterium improves the assimilation of lactose in lactose-intolerant individuals.
In addition, Bifidobacterium longum helps to reduce levels of "bad cholesterol" (LDL) in the blood.
