Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-3
Description
Lactobacillus acidophilus is a lactic acid bacterium naturally present in breast milk.
This Gram-positive bacterium belonging to the Firmicutes family produces a molecule of the bacteriocin family, lactacin B. This molecule inhibits the growth and development of other Lactobacillus andEnterococcus faecalis, which can be pathogenic.
In addition Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-3 produces organic acids and hydrogen peroxide, which inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria that can be found in food products, such as Clostridium perfringens, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella.
The advantage de Lactobacillus acidophilus lies in its ability to adhere to the intestinal mucosa, thus promoting long-term activity.
Furthermore, publications have demonstrated the benefit of the combination of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium lactis in digestive diseases and chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, including Crohn's disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and ulcerative colitis. In addition, these two bacteria also help to reduce the frequency of traveller's diarrhoea and infectious diarrhoea in children.
The benefits
Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-3 is a microbiota bacterium with beneficial effects against the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria, in particular through the production of lactacin B.
