Harvested by bees from certain tree buds such as fir, birch or poplar, propolis protects the hive from microbes by acting as a real disinfectant or natural shield. The composition of propolis can change according to the plants the bees visit. However, even if the compositions differ, propolis retains its virtues. As a general rule, propolis is composed as follows: resin (flavonoids, esters, phenolic acids...) 50 to 55%, wax 30 to 35%, volatile or essential oils 5 to 10%, pollen 5%, miscellaneous substances 5%.
