Bioavailability refers to the amount of a substance that reaches the bloodstream or the site of action in the body after being administered or consumed. The higher the bioavailability, the more efficiently the vitamin is absorbed. That is why we systematically choose coenzymated vitamins, minerals in the form of organic salts, and bioactive compounds directly assimilable by the cells.
The vitamin B9 used in PHYSIOMANCE® Vitamine B9 is in its coenzymated form: calcium L-methylfolate, also known as 5-MTHF (5-methyltetrahydrofolate). This form has better bioavailability than dietary folates and folic acid, ensuring immediate activation and requiring no further transformation once in the body. It can therefore be used immediately in metabolic reactions, leading to enhanced effectiveness.
For absorption by the body, dietary folates and synthetic folic acid must first be converted into simpler forms by an enzyme in the intestine. Once this step is completed, they are transported into the cells within the enterocytes, where they can be converted into 5-MTHF, the biologically active form of vitamin B9.
However, some individuals have a genetic variation that limits their ability to perform this conversion, reducing the effectiveness of traditional folic acid metabolism and making the assimilation of vitamin B9 less than optimal. In these cases, direct supplementation with 5-MTHF provides a more suitable solution to ensure efficient and usable intake by the body. The L-methylfolate form of calcium also helps quickly address deficiencies, offering a more effective approach to supply the body with essential elements for many metabolic reactions, while ensuring numerous significant benefits in terms of absorption, efficacy, and stability.
