EPA (EICOSAPENTAENOIC ACID)
Description
Eicosapentaenoic acid, also known as EPA, is a polyunsaturated fatty acid with a long carbon chain from the omega-3 family.
Omega-3s help lower blood pressure, maintain mental health (dementia, Alzheimer's disease, depression) and are involved in the prevention of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Already known for its protective role in reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, EPA also contributes to the proper functioning of the brain and nervous system.
EPA is present in fatty fish such as herring, sardines and anchovies. As these fish are unable to synthesise them themselves in large quantities, these fatty acids come from the microalgae that are part of their diet.
The benefits
EPA, a molecule of the omega-3 family, contributes to the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system by preventing the primary and secondary pathologies associated with it. In addition, eicosapentaenoic acid helps to maintain normal heart function and promotes normal brain function. EPA is also involved in the nutritional support of a diet low in fish.
The beneficial effects on the normal functioning of the heart and brain are obtained by a daily consumption of 250 mg of EPA and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).
THERASCIENCE Laboratory’s special features
As part of a corporate social and environmental responsibility (CSR) approach and with the aim of sustainability, most of the THERASCIENCE Laboratory's products containing fish oil have labels certifying eco-responsible fishing, which is environmentally friendly and aims to preserve world reserves.
The fish oils used come from small fish (herring, sardine, anchovy) at the beginning of the food chain and selected for their high omega-3 content. They are caught in pure oceanic waters: cold, unpolluted areas of the North Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
The omega-3s used by the THERASCIENCE Laboratory are present in triglyceride form, a natural form that allows for better absorption by the body.
THERASCIENCE Laboratory selects omega-3s with strict quality criteria, guaranteeing the absence of contaminating substances.
