Resolvins
Description
Resolvins are pro-resolving mediators, also known as SPMs (Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators), which belong to the omega-3 family and have an anti-inflammatory role.
Resolvins are synthesised from EPA and DHA through various enzymatic reactions during which intermediate precursors, the pre-resolvins, are formed.
Several pre-resolvins exist, including 18-HEPE (18-hydroxy-eicosapentaenoic acid), 17-HDHA (17-hydroxy-docosahexaenoic acid) and 14-HDHA (14-hydroxy-docosahexaenoic acid).
Inflammation is a normal biological process. It consists of an initial phase in which pro-inflammatory mediators are released and inflammation increases, and a resolution phase in which inflammation is reduced and then ended by the presence of pro-resolving mediators.
While acute inflammation is essential and constitutes the body's first line of defence in the event of a tissue attack, the induction of the resolution stage by resolvins ensures a return to a pre-inflammatory physiological state, limits inflammation over time and thus prevents the transition to a chronic inflammatory state.
Benefits
Resolvins are lipid molecules involved in the process of resolving inflammation and are derived from the natural enzymatic biotransformation of precursors (18-HEPE, 17-HDHA and 14-HDHA) belonging to the omega-3 family.
THERASCIENCE Specific features
THERASCIENCE Laboratory has selected a fish oil with a high content of pre-resolvins and dosed with 18-HEPE, 17-HDHA and 14-HDHA. With the objective to preserve the world's fish stocks, Laboratoire THERASCIENCE's fish oils have been awarded the Friend of the sea©, label, a guarantee of eco-responsible fishing that cares for the environment.
