Berberine
Description
Used in phytotherapy for its numerous health benefits, berberine is a molecule of the alkaloid family, naturally present in certain plants such as barberry (Berberis vulgaris), goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) or Mexican argemone (Argemone mexicana).
Known for thousands of years by Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, berberine is one of the most powerful molecules in the plant kingdom. It continues to attract the interest of researchers as it has a wide range of properties that allow it to offer a wide range of health benefits.
Berberine regulates cholesterol and glucose levels in the blood. Through its lipid-lowering and glucose-lowering effects, it reduces bad cholesterol (LDL) levels and is an effective ally in the prevention and treatment of pre-diabetes and type II diabetes.
Berberine also has a protective effect on various organs such as the heart, liver and kidneys. In addition, berberine has antibacterial, immuno modulating and anti fungal properties.
In particular, it acts against Candida albicans, a yeast-like micro-organism naturally present in the body (intestine and mouth, in particular), but whose proliferation can lead to an infection called candidiasis.
Berberine is also known for its antioxidant effects, which help reduce oxidative stress caused by free radicals.
The benefits
Berberine helps to improve blood sugar control. It helps to reduce triglycerides and maintain normal blood cholesterol levels. Berberine also promotes healthy liver, skin, reproductive and urinary organs.
